This past weekend was an incredible journey of inspiration, empowerment, and community as I traveled to Monroe, IN, to attend the “We Do Recovery” convention. Invited by a close friend, @ climb4recovery. The anticipation built up within me as I looked forward to connecting with others and learning from their experiences in recovery. The weekend kicked off with the “Road to Recovery” fundraiser, an event that was not just fun, but also marked a significant step towards inclusivity and support for the recovery community. Being part of the inaugural fundraiser for the first Trans recovery center in Indiana filled me with a profound sense of pride and hope. The atmosphere was electrifying, as people from all walks of life came together, united by a common goal – to support and uplift each other. Witnessing such a strong display of solidarity and love was a powerful reminder that when we come together, change is not just possible; it’s inevitable.
The following day was brimming with anticipation and excitement. A group of us gathered for breakfast, fostering a space for open conversation and reflection on the previous day’s events. There was a palpable sense of community and support, as stories were shared, and experiences were exchanged. We delved into discussions about the importance of inclusivity in the recovery journey, acknowledging that everyone’s path is unique, but equally valid. Later that evening, as we made our way to the convention, the air was filled with a mix of nerves and excitement. The speakers took the stage, sharing their raw, heartfelt journeys through recovery. Their stories were a powerful testament to the resilience of the human spirit, reminding us all that recovery is not just a possibility; it’s a reality for so many. The entertainment provided was the cherry on top, creating a celebratory atmosphere that left everyone feeling inspired and motivated.
Looking back on this transformative weekend, I am filled with gratitude and a renewed sense of hope. The journey of recovery is complex and multifaceted, but the “We Do Recovery” convention and the “Road to Recovery” fundraiser served as poignant reminders that support, community, and inclusion are pivotal components of this journey. Being surrounded by individuals who have walked this path, and witnessing the power of shared stories and experiences, has left an indelible mark on my heart. Recovery is indeed possible, and this weekend was a beautiful celebration of that truth.
