The Day We’ve All Been Waiting For: I Will Rise, And You Will Too

Ever since I jotted down the very first idea for my speaking event, “I Will Rise And You Will Too”, there was a bubbling excitement in my core. Today was the realization of that dream. It seems like forever that I’ve waited for this day, and as the sun poured into my skoolie, I could barely contain my enthusiasm.

Most of my morning was a swirl of thoughts, rehearsing lines, and ensuring every detail was just right. Taking deep breaths, I practiced my words, knowing that the heart of my message was to uplift and empower. But as the hours drew closer, that familiar hint of anxiety snuck in. Will I forget my lines? What if they don’t resonate with my words?

However, as I stepped into the venue and met the eyes of about 10 eager gentlemen, all waiting in anticipation, my heart rate steadied. The setting was intimate, warm, and informal – a perfect atmosphere for a genuine heart-to-heart talk. Their receptive smiles and attentive posture eased my nerves.

As the minutes flowed by, we shared stories, exchanged insights, and inspired one another. I watched as faces lit up, nodding in agreement, and felt a profound connection. My message wasn’t just about rising from challenges but also about understanding our unique journeys and recognizing the power within us to change our narratives.

But what happened after the event was equally transformative.

We transitioned to a facility dedicated to serving the homeless. As I handed out plates of food, looked into the eyes of those who had faced life’s harshest challenges, and listened to their stories, my heart was heavy with emotion.

In those moments, the contrast of life’s circumstances was stark. It reminded me of the privileges I often take for granted – a roof over my head, food on my table, the luxury of choice. Being amidst those who had so little brought a perspective shift. Life isn’t about what we accumulate, but rather about the moments of humanity, kindness, and gratitude.

Being able to assist the homeless wasn’t just a gesture of charity, but a profound lesson in gratitude. It’s easy to get lost in the daily grind and overlook the simple joys and privileges that fill our lives. This experience reminded me to pause, reflect, and appreciate even the smallest of blessings. Whether it’s the warmth of the sun on my skin, a stranger’s friendly smile, or the comfort of my bed, there’s so much to be grateful for.

Every encounter, be it speaking to a group or serving a meal, is a chance to grow, learn, and be a better version of ourselves. Today was more than just a speaking event; it was an awakening of the heart, a call to rise above challenges, and a reminder to embrace gratitude every single day.
